Website Design for Engineers in Kenya: Winning Clients and Consultancy Work
Published 2026-09-24 · By Joseph Kiarie, Founder
Engineering work is won on credentials, past projects and price — and all three are checked online before a client calls. A structural engineer being considered for a mall extension, an electrical contractor bidding for a plant upgrade and a solar firm quoting a school all face the same test: what does the internet say about you? This guide covers what a Kenyan engineering firm’s website needs.
Three kinds of engineering firm, three different websites
A consultancy that produces designs, reports and site supervision is selling expertise and professional liability. A contractor that installs, fabricates or maintains is selling delivery capacity, plant and labour. A supplier is selling products against a specification. They win work in different ways, so one template cannot serve all three.
Decide which one you are, then decide who signs the cheque: a private developer, a corporate facilities manager, a county tender committee, an NGO or a homeowner. That answer settles the pages, the proof and the call to action.
Registrations, licences and memberships belong on the page
Tender committees and corporate procurement teams verify credentials before they shortlist, and a client choosing between two similar quotations will use them as a tie-breaker. Put the numbers in text, not inside a scanned image, so they can be read on a phone and found by search.
- ✓Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) registration status for every engineer named on the site.
- ✓Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) membership, with the professional grade.
- ✓National Construction Authority (NCA) registration and category, where you contract.
- ✓Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) licences for electrical and solar work.
- ✓ISO certifications, calibration certificates and professional indemnity cover.
Service pages that match how clients search
Clients search by discipline, not by your company name. One page per discipline, each naming the work in the words a client would use, is what lets you appear for those searches without competing against your own homepage.
- ✓Structural design, analysis and drawings.
- ✓Civil engineering, roads and infrastructure.
- ✓Electrical installation, testing and compliance.
- ✓Mechanical, HVAC and plumbing services.
- ✓Solar design, installation and maintenance.
- ✓Water, sanitation and borehole works.
- ✓Project management and construction supervision.
Project experience with numbers, not adjectives
“We deliver quality projects on time” says nothing a competitor could not also claim. For each scheme, state the project type and size, your exact role, the value band, the standards applied, the approvals obtained and the year of completion — without naming a client who has not agreed to be named.
The documents a technical buyer wants
Engineering procurement is document-driven. A downloadable company profile and capability statement, datasheets, specifications and sample reports save the buyer a phone call. Do not gate them behind a form: in a tender process, an anonymous download is worth more than an email address nobody follows up.
What to avoid
- ✓Stock photographs of hard hats and blueprints instead of your own sites.
- ✓No registration numbers anywhere on the site.
- ✓Project lists with no role, value, year or outcome.
- ✓A scanned PDF standing in for the whole website.
- ✓An enquiry form that sends to an unmonitored inbox.
- ✓Claiming work you subcontracted or only partly supervised.
